Max Payne is a third-person shooter action video game, the first title in the Max Payne series, created by Remedy Entertainment and first released on PC in July 2001, released by Gathering of Developers.
The game follows protagonist Max Payne, a NYPD detective turned undercover DEA agent whose "American Dream" life - a loving wife, a newborn daughter, and a suburban home - was one day shattered. .
Themes of Norse mythology and Hong Kong action cinema are prevalent throughout the game.

Max Payne ports were created for PlayStation 2, Xbox and Macintosh. A version of Max Payne was also released for the Game Boy Advance. Another port of the game, called Max Payne Mobile, was released for portable iOS and Android systems on April 13, 2012.
